Surfrider’s South Orange County Chapter is asking the Laguna Beach City Council to pass a plastics reduction ordinance that builds on the citywide expanded polystyrene ban enacted in 2007.

The proposed ordinance for 2021 includes a provision that plastic straws, stirrers and cutlery are only provided to customers at restaurants upon request. Also included is a ban on using expanded polystyrene foam disposable food service ware at city beaches, parks and trails.

Surfrider South OC is working with Laguna Ocean Foundation, local restaurants and hotels, and community activists to encourage City Council to pass a more comprehensive plastics reduction ordinance.
