Laguna Beach City Council unanimously approved an ordinance to ban plastic straws, stirrer, cutlery, disposable foodware and plastic takeout bags at all restaurants and food providers citywide.
Surfrider's South Orange County Chapter was asking the Laguna Beach City Council to pass a plastics reduction ordinance that builds on the citywide expanded polystyrene ban enacted in 2007. Surfrider South OC worked with Laguna Ocean Foundation, local restaurants and hotels, and community activists to encourage City Council to pass a more comprehensive plastics reduction ordinance.
The ordinance that passed in June 2021 includes a provision that bans plastic straws, stirrers, cutlery, disposable foodware and plastic takeout bags at all restaurants and food providers citywide. Also included is a ban on using expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam disposable foodware at city beaches, parks and trails. This is a great step to help reduce plastic pollution!
