Kelly Capps

I’m an Orange County Lifer, born in Fullerton, CA and have lived within the county my entire life. My love for the ocean started like many kids living in the north part of the county, by taking the bus. Public transportation down Harbor Blvd. was a must every summer as my friends and I would be gone until after dark as often as possible. That feel for the water translated into water polo and swimming in high school and college. I earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in graphic design at CSU Fullerton and later worked within various business industries as an advertising and marketing creative. I also had the opportunity to teach part time at campuses such as Fullerton College, Orange Coast College, Irvine Valley College, FiDM OC/LA, Cal Poly Pomona, and CSU Fullerton for over 30 years. Both career paths taught me many ways to communicate with others.

Now partially retired, I’ve turned my focus and energy back to the ocean in a desire to be a small part of the ongoing goal of a cleaner, healthier, safer place for us all to enjoy. And to communicate this simple thought – be it picking up one small piece of trash, or buying a ‘ocean safe’ sunscreen, or starting a conversation with others about how important the ocean is to our planet’s health – how little acts like this can help generate waves of change. For the better.

Andre Molga

Hey there, I'm Andre! I was born and raised in South Orange County, and I initially joined Surfrider while studying at UC Berkeley. I love to surf, and I joined Surfrider SOC because I want to give back to our local beaches and ocean, as they have given so much to me. Outside of surfing, I love traveling and listening to music. You can find me at concerts and festivals across California. I'm looking forward to meeting you at the next event!

As Volunteer Coordinator with the Surfrider Foundation South OC Chapter, I help connect our community members with impactful, local grassroots opportunities to protect our coastlines and ocean. With a background in environmental biology, a lifelong love of the ocean as a surfer, and many years as a member of the San Diego Chapter, I bring both scientific insight and personal passion to my work. I have also had the incredible opportunity to be on the ground floor of the formation and launch of the Blue Water Task Force program 25 years ago, of which I am currently co-program director for our chapter along with Kelly Capps at the Ocean Institute.  With our Surfrider chapter, I organize and support our south orange county volunteers in participating in local chapter initiatives such as the Blue Water Task Force, and even coordinate a little volunteer social bonding time!  I genuinely aim to empower volunteers of all ages to take meaningful action with our local chapter, and have fun doing it!  When I'm not volunteering for Surfrider Foundation, I am in the ocean surfing or paddling, volunteering as a reiki therapist in hospitals, and spending time with my favorite people on earth - my 3 children!  I am so grateful to be raising three ocean-minded children on this beautiful coastline, and inspiring the next generation of coastal stewards!

Parisa Brumand

I hold a B.Sc. in Agricultural Engineering and an M.Sc. in Management Information Systems. I am passionate about nature-based solutions and environmental sustainability, focusing on sustainable landscaping and stormwater management. Motivated by Surfrider Foundation's Ocean Friendly Gardens program, I promote practices that protect clean water and support resilient ecosystems.

I am enthusiastic about designing drought-tolerant landscapes with native plants, implementing water-efficient irrigation systems, and incorporating features like bioswales to reduce runoff and enhance biodiversity. Through continuous learning and community engagement, I aim to reduce the environmental impact of landscape maintenance.

Matt Johnson

Born and raised in South Orange County, Matt developed a deep love for the ocean at an early age. As a grom, he spent his days exploring beaches from Laguna to Baja. After graduating from San Diego State University, his passion for adventure led him to Central America, where he immersed himself in the region’s waves and local culture.

Back in the States, Matt dove into the surf/skate/snow industry, working in sports marketing and crisscrossing the country in a whirlwind of events and promotions. Eventually, he pivoted to a more grounded role—teaching high school, a career he's proudly pursued for the past 23 years.

When he's not grading essays, Matt can be found surfing, snowboarding, biking, hanging with his dog, traveling with his wife, or donating a large portion of his paycheck to live music.

As a core volunteer, Matt brings more than just a name to the list—he blends decades of teaching experience with a lifelong passion for the ocean. He thrives on community engagement and is always ready to educate, advocate, and inspire others to protect and conserve our coastal environments.
